Unique & One-of-A-Kind

Within these regional areas, you will find plenty of things to do and see, unique artisan and cultural events, wine trails and tours, various rails-to-trails for hiking and biking, and a huge inventory of sightseeing and educational opportunities just for couples, or as family or group. From big city life to small town America, there’s a wide array of events and places that draw visitors to the Corridors. Whatever next adventure or undiscovered place you seek to find, we’re sure you’ll find it within our mountains.

The central southern gateway into the Corridors is located only a few minutes from the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon via PA Route 15.  From there, depending upon whether you travel east or west along Pennsylvania Route 6, your trip offers numerous opportunities to enjoy places like the Kinzua Dam, the Zippo Museum, excursion trains, the excitement of the Electric City or the slopes and casinos of the Poconos area.

There are four northern gateways into the Corridors: Interstates 390, 81, 88 and 87. No matter which of the interstates you plan to enter the Corridors from, New York State Route 17 (I-86) has plenty of wine trails along the Finger Lakes, unique shops and beautiful waterways to take in. Wine, cheese, and maple are among the many delectable treats awaiting your visit. Sailing and fishing among the lakes and streams offers fun and relaxation for visitors to the area. Enjoy unique places not likely found anyplace else such as the Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz Center, the Cuba Cheese Shop, the Corning Museum of Glass, the new Kinzua Skywalk and much more. The Corridors is also rich in lumber and Native American history and heritage. The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum situated on PA Route 6 in Potter County offers you an interactive walk through the pictorial and audio history of the life of the lumberman. There are also many opportunities to participate in the teaching pow-wow’s of the various Native American tribes who have lived within the regional areas for hundreds of years, such as the Eastern Delaware Nations, Seneca Indians, and Lenni Lenape and Algonquian.

Although the networks of many miles of rail lines have long been abandoned, the historical legacy of them have been preserved and now converted to biking and hiking trails. Take a slow ride of a different kind as you travel by bicycle along the many rails-to-trails venues within New York and Pennsylvania. Birdwatching, eagle’s nests, wildlife and waterfalls are among the many activities you will discover along the paved roads of many of the trails.  Themed excursion train ride venues are plentiful along the Corridors.  In fact, one even hosts an old-fashioned Wild West train robbery while you are onboard!

Scenic, Historical, Educational & Much More!

Hang out with the stars on PA Route 6 at the Cherry Springs Dark Skies Preserve. Known for the clearest nighttime view east of the Mississippi River, the Dark Sky Park offers astronomy enthusiasts and stargazers a view not often seen.

The Seneca Nation of Indians, also known as “Keepers of the Western Door,” bring to light the cultural legacy of the Iroquois Confederacy at the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum located in Salamanca, NY. View displays of the Seneca way of life as the largest of all Iroquois tribes continues to carry on the traditions of their forefathers.
